The California Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has announced its consideration for listing Butyl Benzyl Phthalate (BBP, CAS No. 85-68-7) in proposition 65 as Carcinogen substance.
OEHHA selected BBP from a list of chemicals prioritised for consideration by its Carcinogen Identification Committee (CIC) in 2011. BBP is used as plasticiser in polyvinyl chloride, adhesives and other products.
OEHHA is gathering information relevant to the assessment of the evidence of carcinogenicity for butyl benzyl phthalate. Relevant information includes but is not limited to: cancer bioassays, cancer epidemiological studies, genotoxicity testing, other pertinent data on pharmacokinetics, biomarkers and effects on biochemical and physiological processes in humans. The publication consultation will end on January 22, 2013.
